Eng 102
1. How is online learning different than in person learning?
What makes online learning different than in person learning is that online you can do things at your own time and do your work whenever you want to even if it's 2 o clock in the morning cause a lot of people are night people. Another plus to having online classes is that you can wear whatever you want and do work wherever you want. It can have some negative things to whenever you don't get something it's harder to ask for help then it would if you saw the teacher every week.
2. What are the particular challenges or benefits to taking and English class (in particular) in an online environment?
Again a challenge can be is getting help when you don't understand the assignment. That's what I totally have a problem with it's probably something I should have thought about before I took this class but you learn from your mistakes I guess. A benefit is you can do writing whenever something comes into your head when you don't have the assignment in front of you, you think about it more. That's something I did this last assignment it was always on my mind so I would write things down when I thought it and put it together when I actually sat down to write the paper.
3. Which of the technologies that we used this semester was most beneficial to you?
Technologies we used that benefited me is always my computer, I have learned a lot of things you can actually do with a computer that is really amazing to me. I think the whole webcam thing isn't me so I never use it, but I really like doing posters and the slideshow I made at the being of the semester.
4. Which did you like the most?
My favorite was the slideshow I made at the being it's cool to show people what really matters to me then just saying it. I always love showing off pictures of my nephews they make my life the greatest. Just can't wait to meet my niece next month that joy means everything to me.
5. Which will you use in the future and how will you use them?
The slideshow I use for all my classes I think taking this class and finding that site was the greatest thing. It's fun finding a new site that you never knew was around.

Class review!
This semester I have learned that my opinion isn’t always needed in what I am writing, I need to find real fact to back what I am saying up. I have always found that hard but I am actually getting better at it I think well at least I am hoping. What I learned this semester will help a lot in future courses I just wish I would have learned it sooner. It will also help a lot when I became a social worker because I have to write a lot of reports and you can’t give your opinion on that kind of stuff. You have to go out and get facts so you don’t change someone’s life forever.
The reading this semester was great I would never have read the books we did so I am glad I took this class. The book winter bone was my favorite. It’s nice to see a girl step up for her family when she is needed. A lot of kids go through this kind of situation and it’s not always easy for them. Wanting to be a social worker it’s really hard to see children having to go through this kind of situation but all Ree wanted was for her family to stay together and she did everything in her power to do so.
I have tried really hard to met the learning outcomes for this class, I have always judge myself on everything I do so sometimes when I think I am doing what I am suppose to be doing right I change it because I think I am doing it wrong. When we read stories like winter bone I totally understand the book, I understand every book I read it’s just hard to write what I am thinking. I honestly don’t think I have met the outcome because I just don’t know what is really asked of me.
I think it has changed somewhat whenever I am told I am doing something I shouldn’t be I change it. I know that I was writing my opinion on the stories I read so I changed that. I think the more practice you have at doing things you don’t understand the better your get so I hoping that I am getting better at writing. Passing this class is important to me and I am glad I took it to really understand writing.
My challenges in this class were writing I think I have explained it mostly in every paragraph I have wrote. I think everyone wonders why we really need some of the classes we do but this class I am glad I am taking it because I always have a hard time getting what I am saying across. A way I think I overcame my challenges is actually listening to things that I did wrong and fix them. I have found it always hard to take others advise because I thought they were always making fun of me. But some people are just trying to help and want you to do things better.

Winter's Bone!
Drugs abuse leads to violence, separation of parents and children, loss of jobs, feelings of hopelessness, serious money problems, single parenthood, and anxiety over childcare needs, bad relationships, and emotional and behavioral difficulties in children. All these things happened in the book Winter’s Bone. When reading this story it made me see how badly someone life can really change if their parent is addicted to a drug. This girl Ree could have had everything in life by joining the military but she gave it all up because she wanted to help her family. She become the mother and father to her siblings and showed them things that she didn’t have to do.
This book shows things that happen in life today, there are so many children that have to grow up and take care of their siblings because either both parents do drugs or they lost one parent from drugs and the other parent works just so they can survive. Even through everyone thinks girls can’t do anything Ree really showed people she could, she showed her siblings how to do the things they would need to survive. When things get bad and she about to lose the only home she has she takes things into her own hands and tries to find her father so they don’t lose their home.
It’s truly sad that this girl had to go through this and having no one there she could ask for help. It’s nice that the neighbors gave them food but I think Ree would of made sure that her siblings had something to eat. She became very independent because of the situation she was in, and it made her very think headed to, when that cop took the boys home from the bus stop she about had a fit. She didn’t want to have to rely on anyone and thought she could do anything just to help her family. She also never showed emotion when she thought she couldn’t handle things. Children that have to go through this everyday is just really sad and they should have someone out there to turn to because they shouldn’t have to grow up so fast even though it could help them with things further in life.

Methland

Don’t really know if I will write about Methland but it seems like a really interesting story. It’s about a heroic story of the small town of Oelwein, lowa and though it the story of drug abouse in Rural America. With a lot of job losses Oelwein become one of the most drug trafficking cites. Nick Reding is the one that wrote this story and what I am thinking he meant by this story is that he wanted people to see that people really did this when they had no other means to support themselves. It’s really crazy that towns were really like this but I totally believe it because you see a lot of it online.
How does this story relate to winter bone’s, the main reason is drugs. The father was doing drugs and end up getting killed because of it. A lot of people try it once and that’s when they get hooked and do it a lot. Family get destroyed because a person decides that drugs are more then there family. I know that is true because my family has been broken up because of it. It’s just really sad that it happens that way children are truly the ones that get hurt because when someone on drugs they do some really stupid things.

Winter's Bone

When I read the title I thought this book was going to be boring but you can’t judge a book by its cover so I started reading and I actually started liking it. It’s a little sad being the children had to do everything because the dad was doing things he shouldn’t and the mom seemed to be really sick. One part that seemed interesting to me is when the boy was hoping the people next to them would give them food and the girl told him never asks for something that should be offered. When she says the police car come up the road and saw her brothers in the car she was scared and wanted to know why her brothers were in the car. When she found out that they just got a ride because school was closed she was still upset and didn’t want them riding with the law. When she found out that her dad was on bond and that if he didn’t show up to his court case they could lose the house she was very upset. If they lost the house she would never get away from her family and join the military. She would have to stay and take care of them because there would be no one else to help them. This girl had to grow up faster then any child should and that’s really bad, she couldn’t do things that she wanted and dreamed of doing.

I have always seemed really good at understanding what a story was about but reading this story I totally didn’t understand what was going on and found this story very boring. I keep having to go back and read a sentence again to figure out what it all meant. I totally just wanted to say screw it because this story took me about two hours to read. When I got to paragraph 88 it started to seem very interesting when the author wrote “Without hindrance I inserted my key, opened it, and entered. Bartleby was not to be seen. I looked round anxiously, peeped behind his screen; but it was very plain that he was gone.” That line made me want to read more and the reading started to go faster when I got to that part.
When I got to line 211 and 212 I found it very interesting and also kind of entertaining that they were saying this (“Bartleby,” said I, in the kindest tone I could assume under such exciting circumstances, “will you go home with me now—not to my office, but my dwelling—and remain there till we can conclude upon some convenient arrangement for you at our leisure? Come, let us start now, right away. | |
“No, at present I would prefer not to make any change at all.”) These two characters seem very odd and the fact Bartleby didn’t want to answer any of the other guys question seemed very weird. This story to me just seemed very weird and at the end I finally understand what was going on. http://sieteciudades.wordpress.com/2011/04/08/bartleby-y-discos-viejos/ |

“A Modest Proposal”

Jonathan Swift book “A Modest Proposal” was a very interesting read. The problem he identifies in his society is that children are huge burdens on their parents. Swift’s way out of this is selling or eating children, I am not to sure he should be taken serious on this one. I totally think he is joking but if he is not that is totally sick and wrong. The way he jokes about this was wrong and made me really not want to read anymore of it but I did because it was for class. This is totally not logical, why kill a child they didn’t ask to be put on this earth so why should they have to go through something like this. If a parent is having a hard time living their life then they shouldn’t have children. I totally understand why he wrote this though he wants the readers to think and come up with a more logical solution, which is totally don’t have sex if you can’t deal with what happens next it’s just that simple.

"Good Readers and Good Writers"

When reading “Good Readers and Good Writers” by Vladimir Nabokov, what I felt he was trying to come across to the readers was that the more you read a story the more you really understand what the author was trying to get across. He said that readers really need to truly understand what there reading before really judging or going to another book. If a reader reads something about the different wars we have had and they just read it once they wont truly understand it when you read it again you see things more clearly then you did the first time. I agree with what he is saying because that’s something I do when it comes to reading things for school and sometimes for fun, the first time you understand it but when you read it again I think you see things that you missed the first time.
I believe the best characteristic in a reader is that they truly understand what there reading and they learn from it. Vladimir Nabokov list things he believes is I don’t believe that some of these are true because someone can be a really good reader without being in a book club or use a dictionary. When reading books I try to imagine myself in the book I think it’s a lot funnier that way and it makes you want to read the story more. A person I know isn’t very good with memory but when she reads a book she can remember everything really good it’s actually really great. When it comes to reading for myself I use to read a lot but just stopped for some reason, I think I am really good at reading and loved imagining myself in the book.
